summertime part 1.

summer in the mountains is the absolute best.
early cool morning hikes...
teton village is bustling with happy campers...
the wild flowers are in full bloom (lupine to be exact)...
big furry neighbors with the most velvety antlers stopping by to say hello.

a bbq recipe.

for me, the ultimate summertime bbq session is making pizzas with friends.
za parties are just the best on the grill,
especially when someone knocks your socks off with a new creation.
i discovered this balsamic reduction pizza last night at my dear friend molly's.
she's a doll and offered her recipe which is sure to win over everyone at your next dinner party.

balsamic reduction pizza
 - pick up pre-made dough from your favorite pizza spot.
my personal favorite is mountain high pizza pie

to make balsamic reduction sauce...
- add 2 cups of balsamic vinegar and 1/4th cup of brown sugar to a sauce pan
- bring both to boil, then reduce to a simmer
- stir often for 10 to 15 minutes until sauce thickens and ready to drizzle on pizza

meanwhile...
- cook up some bacon strips and dice up once cooled
- caramelize yellow onions in the bacon grease
(or just olive oil)
- slice a few pears to add as a topping

when reduction sauce is ready...
- spread dough out evenly and pour sauce evenly
- add chopped pears, bacon, and onions
- sprinkle with a little blue cheese and a little mozzarella

once pizza is ready...
- light one side of the grill and brush the other side with olive oil
- place the pizza on the oiled side and cover
(you don't want direct heat under the pizza or it will burn)
- cook until the crust starts to turn golden brown and rotate if needed

enjoy the goodness!

summer wedding attire.

welcome to coast to coast styles!
i've teamed up with some amazing fashion bloggers from around the country to bring you helpful tips on how to dress for certain events in your neck of the woods.
first up, summer wedding attire....one of my personal faves.
for a rocky mountain wedding, i always turn to a fun maxi dress print and easy cowboy boots.
if the wedding isn't outside, you're guaranteed to walk on grass, a dirt road, or through a field.
save your stilettos and stay comfy dancing the night away.
temperatures in the summer drop significantly at night so i always bring a leather jacket to stay warm for the after party.

{similar maxi and some that are perfect here, here, and here // cowboy boots}

Stio recently asked me to photograph some lifestyle shots of their spring/summer collection.
when i mentioned jeff might be interested in modeling, they signed him right up!
i kind of forgot to mention it to him until last minute...
"remember, tomorrow morning we have a photo shoot so get your beauty rest."
he was a little shocked to find out i was throwing him in some new clothes
but he loves Stio, so it was a win-win really.
i might be biased but he's pretty dang cute and fits the mountain man mold pretty well.
naturally, he was able to play the part when i asked him to "show me your best beard angle"!

with the summer solstice tomorrow, Stio is having a huge sale on everything online and in the flagship store in Jackson.
make sure to sign up for a catalogue so jeff and i can grace your mailboxes.

lotm: get camping!

i've been a traveling fool lately with weddings galore.
when i am home, i've been working on weekends to get caught up.
resort town real estate.... it's a crazy world.
i'm hoping that next weekend will be a little more mellow as i've been dreaming of setting up camp.
it's the ultimate summer thing to do and i'm hoping to score this campsite again this summer.
jeff and i are also talking about car camping with an air mattress in the back of his truck!
add lots of blankets, pillows, and our buddy osker and i'll be in camping heaven.
and of course 'smores, duh.

their adventures are inspirational and so much fun to follow.

EAT: LOCAL
We spent some time at an orphanage and while we were there ate a healthy heaping of morning glory (similar to spinach) and sticky rice. It's always a treat to eat locally, and especially to share a meal with people who actually live there. We helped in the garden and ate our harvest from the day, and it tasted far more delicious knowing it was hand grown and cared for from start to finish by people we knew and grew to love in just a short time. If you can help it, we definitely recommend passing up the usual restaurants and digging a little deeper for unique opportunities to share meals and connect with others in a meaningful way.

Angkor Wat is one of the world's seven wonders, and for good reason! It's an incredible site to see with several temples to explore by tuk-tuk and foot. Angkor Wat is the capital of the Khmer empire and is the largest religious monument and temple complex in the entire world! Imagine that! We spent an entire 3-days exploring all the temples, and we still didn't see it all! If you're a huge fan of architecture and museums with a really cool history, you'll want the 3-day tour for sure. If you're a little like me and get hungry and floppy when on walking tours, you might want to cut it to just two days and you'll have just as much fun.

Cambodia has a high volume of orphans because of the heart-breaking and traumatic Khmer Rouge genocide, which contributed to the opening of several orphanages. Most if not all orphanages are very open to day-trip visitors and volunteers. Make your travel a little more meaningful and participate in some "voluntourism" (see explanation here) and spend one of your days at an orphanage playing games with the kids, helping teach English, reading, cooking and cleaning - whatever they may need. Your heart will be glad you did.
