my hiatus.

{via my pinterest}
(skkkrrrrrrrrp) - that's supposed to be a sound effect.
i'm taking a career break.
i've finally decided to take a little time off for myself and see the world.
you all know that i love to travel and from what i hear
its a lot easier now...pre marriage and kids...to get up and go.
and that's just what i'm gonna do.
i'm making a big trip to the east coast come october and then....who knows!?!

i'm hoping to volunteer a bit abroad, backpack, and work on my photography.
i will be on a budget but i will look into any recommendations.
south america keeps screaming my name...
so friends, tell me, any suggestions?

Meagan, I am so excited for you! After college graduation, I moved to Chile and absolutely loved it. I have traveled extensively throughout South America and parts of Central America. Let me know if you want some suggestions on places to visit. (Patagonia and Machu Picchu are a must)

I fell in love with Latin America and am dying to return as soon as possible. Can't wait to hear more about your adventures!

I did this last year. so worth it! you will be SO happy you decided to go! I did Asia. It was amazing, and cheap, plus, lots of great food. And, now, South America is calling me. Argentina and Chile, DYING. I mean, Patagonia is my dream. Good for you to bite the bullet and GO!

Look into a website called workaway. My brother is doing it right now in Chile and he's taking care of people's greenhouses and soon he'll be working for an adventure company. It's pretty freaking awesome. They do any amount of time so you could literally work in a place for a week or two and move on. AWESOME! I'm so freaking excited for you! Is the man coming?

This sounds amazing! I travelled through Eastern Europe as a kid and really liked it; it had a great mix of history and new city lifestyle. Plus there are hostels galore!

Wow. I am so envious and proud and happy for you':)

This is amazing news. I cannot wait to follow your prep, planning and adventures. I mean you know I am obsessed with Italy but south America would be just so neat. It seems so unexplored and raw as it is. Please keep us updated with your details! Are you going alone!? Man I wish I could be your travel sidekick!

Awesome! I am so jealous! I spent two months backpacking South America and loved it. I will say I managed to spend more money than I thought I would because I traveled a lot as opposed to staying in one place and hanging out. Still, it was way cheaper than Europe and flights down there are so reasonable. If you go to Brazil I would recommend Paraty because it was a highlight of my trip! Also if you need any DC recommendations let me know :)

So exciting! Check out the blog http://thefeastingphoenix.com/ of a former coworker of mine who quit her job to travel. Looks like she's having a blast & also offers good, budget-friendly tips.

Sounds amazing! Actually kind of envious of you because while I would love to I don't think I would ever have the guts to get up and go!

SO AWESOME!! Congrats lady! I love when people live their lives with purpose and go off on adventures! Keep blogging so we can follow your journey. The hubs and I might be moving out to the east coast (NC) to try it out for a couple of years but we're still in the discussion stage... although that's nothing compared to South America lol. Congrats again! Excited for you :)

I have volunteered with an organization called Cross Cultural Soultions. I volunteered for two weeks with them in Sao Paolo Brazil, it was amazing! They have volunteer locations all over the world. It was an amazing volunteer and cultural experience, and affordable to boot!
