a bbq recipe.

for me, the ultimate summertime bbq session is making pizzas with friends.
za parties are just the best on the grill,
especially when someone knocks your socks off with a new creation.
i discovered this balsamic reduction pizza last night at my dear friend molly's.
she's a doll and offered her recipe which is sure to win over everyone at your next dinner party.

balsamic reduction pizza
 - pick up pre-made dough from your favorite pizza spot.
my personal favorite is mountain high pizza pie

to make balsamic reduction sauce...
- add 2 cups of balsamic vinegar and 1/4th cup of brown sugar to a sauce pan
- bring both to boil, then reduce to a simmer
- stir often for 10 to 15 minutes until sauce thickens and ready to drizzle on pizza

meanwhile...
- cook up some bacon strips and dice up once cooled
- caramelize yellow onions in the bacon grease
(or just olive oil)
- slice a few pears to add as a topping

when reduction sauce is ready...
- spread dough out evenly and pour sauce evenly
- add chopped pears, bacon, and onions
- sprinkle with a little blue cheese and a little mozzarella

once pizza is ready...
- light one side of the grill and brush the other side with olive oil
- place the pizza on the oiled side and cover
(you don't want direct heat under the pizza or it will burn)
- cook until the crust starts to turn golden brown and rotate if needed

enjoy the goodness!

lotm: nature's treasures.

{from a favorite store of mine, twenty two home.}
want an easy way to make your home more rustic?
just add pine cones!
or any other of mother nature's fine elements.
don't pick the wildflowers though, mmmk?
the rangers won't be happy about that.

arbor day (and some winners)

i'm off, yet again.
this time it's back to colorado celebrating my good friend and her bun in the oven.
we'll be spending a night in boulder (can't drive through without some pearl street mall action)
and then hitting denver for a sunny and warm-ish weekend.
did you know tomorrow is Arbor Day?
i won't have time to do anything cool like plant a tree but i will be making a donation here.

lotm: off-season projects

one thing i love about jeff is his handy-man skills.
i can't put together a table with instructions from walmart.
i think we're a good team...i come up with the ideas....he executes.
(aka does all the hard work)
but i mean, he's really good at building stuff.
look at this greenhouse he built in idaho from this past summer, click here.
now that the mountain has closed and off-season is here, i've got a lot of ideas (for jeff...)

but to be fair, i have a serious project for myself.
one that will take lots of time, energy, serious concentration!
a kitchen garden.
some of you may laugh, but this girl has the worst green thumb in history.
once, i killed all of the plants at our office.
death by drowning. poor things.

{via}
anyways, it will look like this and we shall have many of dinner nights with fresh herbs sprinkled throughout my gourmet meals.
the end.
or i'll just go to the local farmers market.

LOTM: beauty.

today on ladies of the mountains we are sharing our mountain beauty tips.
for me, the most important beauty tip out there is sunscreen.
it surprises me how often people don't apply sunscreen!
being so close to the sun can be dangerous, even more so on sunny ski days.
a sunscreen with an SPF 30 or more will protect your face by blocking the harmful UVA and UVB rays but still provide you with a tan.
conclusion: you will still get color with sunscreen.
why they don't teach that in school baffles me.
it's a no brainer, people!
sunscreens

a great post-mountain product is Perfectly Posh's Tree Hugger.
i recently used it after a sunscreen filled ski day and my skin felt like buttah!

decor inspiration: twenty two home.

{i'm all about using reclaimed natural materials.}
{can we talk about these burlap stools?  in serious interior love.}
{leather fly swatters, yes please!}

{fun coasters add a splash of color to natural woods}
{i'll take two.}
for this week's ladies of the mountains series,
i wanted to highlight a favorite local store of mine, twenty two home.
every time i walk into this store, i immediately feel at home.
this modern western interior store is pretty spot on for my personal taste...
rustic, elegant, sophisticated, and super cozy.

LOTM: winter fun

besides skiing, there are tons of things to do here in the winter months
my personal fave is snowshoeing.
its a great way to see wildlife while catching some rays on your face.
you can usually rent snowshoes at any outdoor shop for pretty cheap.
so grab your friends, boxed wine, and get shoein'

*locals note: you can get a great deal on rentals at skinny skis

LOTM: dream hike.

{via pinterest}
last january i decided not to make my typical new year's resolutions like, "eat better, drink more water, exercise more...etc."
instead, i picked one big goal and tried to fulfill it.
so, i stupidly told myself i'd run a marathon and i somehow managed to check that bad boy off the list, see here.
for 2013, i think it's time i finally climb the grand teton.
i mean, i've lived here for almost 5 years now...
those mayans were wrong, therefore this is the year for the summit!

LOTM: all bundled up.

one thing that i'm guilty of in the winters
is wearing one of my many ski jackets all day, every day.
from work, to the slopes, to a fancy dinner out, its hard for me to part with my cozy down jackets.
this winter, however, i plan on incorporating a few chicer pieces into my bundled up wardrobe.
this includes leaving my bulky ski gloves at home when it's time for dinner out or a business meeting.
baby steps.
jacket: emerson fry
bomber hat: madewell
faux fur vest: bb dakota
leather gloves: j.crew (on sale!)
snood: j. crew

LOTM: thankful for my mountain haven

today i'm thankful for my mountain haven, jackson hole.
but i'm most thankful for are the people who live there.
i've met the most amazing people in our little town (including jeffers)
who continue to inspire me through their crazy athletic abilities, their artsy ways, their passion for music/food, and their genuine zest for life.
i'm thankful to live in a place where others encourage me to see the world.
i don't think i'd be in argentina if it wasn't for the love and support from my peeps back home.
happy thanksgiving friends and family all over the world!

LOTM: my favorite hiking item

this week's LOTM: our favorite hiking item.
the camel bak is a necessity for me all year round.
for summer day hikes, i take the larger backpack as i always carry an extra layer.
you never know when an afternoon storm might roll in!
it also has room for my camera, phone, car keys, and food to grub on.
i sometimes even take my camel pak when i'm skiing and don't need to strap my skis to my back.

LOTM - hikes.

today on Ladies of The Mountains we are talking about our favorite hikes.
the very best day hike in jackson is hands down, jackson peak.
it's only a couple of hours and offers incredible views of jackson hole.
head up to curtis canyon and veer right at the fork in the road.
you'll get to a parking lot and just follow the trail all the way up.
this time of year is the best with the cool temps and the aspens changing = vibrant!
goodwin lake is also a great place to picnic or throw in your fly rod.
best to head up with a group of girlfriends, dogs, and life saving trail mix.
don't forget the bear spray!
