the deck.

{head on up via the gondola}
{view from the top}
{views of the mountain}
{mmmm sliders}
{live music}
{huckleberry how pow}
{chilled edamame}
{dessert. always.}
happy hours are a great summer-time tradition that i very much enjoy partaking in.
with the long days here in jackson, its always fun to grab drinks/apps and soak in the mountain sun.
the views from the top of the gondola are absolutely breathtaking over looking the valley.
add a slight mountain summer breeze and my happy hour is complete.
the ride up is free when heading to The Deck starting at 4:30pm (closed on saturdays)
the Huckleberry How Pow might just be my favorite summer cocktail.
huckleberries get me every time.
and don't even get me started on the grass-fed beef sliders.
the deck closes September 10th so there is still plenty of time to head up to The Deck!

locals note:
2 for 1 drinks are daily from 5:00 - 6:00 on draft beers, margaritas, mojitos and wines by the glass.
nibble on yummy appetizers and drinks while listening to live music all summer long.

thanks to Dishing JH for teaming up on this post!

rum cake for a cause.

{the chunk missing?  just from my first taste.}
this here cake my friends, is THE best rum cake that will ever touch your lips.
and it'll make you feel real good too.  and not just in that way either ;)
this cake is fighting cancer, one bite at a time.
listen up.

one of my most favorite people in the whole entire world, nancy, has been battling pancreatic cancer since 2006.  yes, you read that correctly.  it has been 7 years since nancy was first diagnosed. you can read her entire story here but she's kind of like the poster child for kicking pancreatic cancer's ass.

nancy started NancyCakes as a way to say thank you.  they were a pretty big hit. being the wonderful person that she is, she decided to start selling the cakes, with half of the profits going to pancreatic cancer research.  she sent me a cake last week to "test" and i ate about 3/4ths of it to myself, in one sitting.  it was seriously one of the best cakes i've ever eaten.  and she personally bakes all of the cakes herself!

{nancy pants at work.}
nancy uses high quality jamaican rum so these treats stay good for weeks to come.
perfect for gifts!

go on, take a bite out of cancer.

nyc engagement party.

before i headed off on my adventure, i had some celebrating to do.
my bestest friend is getting hitched next year and as the maid of honor, i wanted to do something special for her and her hubby to be.
the two met at university of kentucky so i decided to throw a kentucky themed engagement dinner.
blue and white, bowties, bourbon, and all kentucky cuisine!

{custom made banner from etsy}
{paper straws from etsy and apothecary jars c/o american bridal, a great spot for wedding favors!}
{flowers and candy filled mint juliep cups.  uk color jelly bellies filled apothecary jars}
{i bought vintage bow ties and used them to decorate the bottles at the bar}

{chef matteo and his bourbon glazed sliders. unreal.}
{hush puppies in cupcake holders}
{what's a kentucky party without fried chicken?}
{mandatory engagement-ring-stuck-in-a-hot-brown pic.  i think?}
{the beautiful couple!}
my friend matteo, a private chef in nyc, whipped up the most amazing food for us.
the kentucky kiddos said his hot browns were the best they've ever had!
he was so helpful coming up with menu ideas while staying within my budget.
if you are looking for a caterer in the nyc area, make sure to contact matteo.
thank you to my friends at american bridal for providing the adorable apothecary jars.
all six pounds of jelly bellies fit nicely!
and a big shout out to the incredibly talented taylor who was a breeze to work with in creating the personalized artwork/invitations for the party.  the girl has talent.
everything came together and the party twas a success!
until next time, nyc.

a greenhouse in idaho.

{basil and a butterfly}

my jeffers, the handy man, see here
drove me over the pass into idaho to check out this greenhouse he made.
its been a year and all of the plants are in full bloom and d-lish.
i was beyond impressed and it was pretty dang cute to see him so proud.
we added some of the sweet toppings from the greenhouse onto our pizzas
then popped them into this handmade (not-by-jeff-but-don't-worry-i-put-it-on-the-list) brick-oven.
i'm telling ya, the best za's i've ever had!

the art of making pasta.

i'm a sucker when it comes to cooking classes
its so much fun to get your hands dirty with a real pro.
i went to the aspen's market pasta making dinner and had such a good time.
joel was awesome, telling us stories about his time spent in Italy learning to cook all types of pasta.
he showed us how to make fettucini, ravioli, tortellini, tagliatelle, and agnolotti.
after his demonstrations, we all dined on our homemade ravioli filled with butternut squash and fettucini topped with an incredible bolognese sauce.

if you are going to be in the jackson hole area this winter season,
hop over to Dishing's website to check out a schedule of upcoming classes!
