i'm in bermuda!

my best gal pal is getting hitched this saturday.
as her maid of honor, i dutifully accepted to head down a week early
to help her relax and put together a few last minute touches.
it's a hard job, but somebody's got to do it ;)

the jumping rock.

the weather this weekend was pure perfection.
my girlfriends and i decided to chill out at phelps lake to catch some rays and get a little hike in.
we parked at death canyon trailhead and hiked up to the phelps lake lookout.
then made our way down to the jumping rock.
as my friend says, "its not summer until you jump off the rock"
some things just make you feel like a kid again.

mountain lovin'.

there is something about a quality engagement shoot that really tugs at my heart.
i love me a good photo shoot.
especially one where my gorgeous friends are involved!
my friend ellie and her fiance ted are getting hitched in virginia this summer and i can't wait.
(theodore + eleanore is just too good)
he's a musician and she's a brainy architect so they make for an awesome couple.
the setting for their photo shoot, in that other mountain range back east, is simply stunning.

all photos by Eric Kelley.

do you have awesome mountain lovin' photos?  i'd love to see them and share my favorites~ email them to meagan{dot}murtagh@gmail{dot}com.

rum cake for a cause.

{the chunk missing?  just from my first taste.}
this here cake my friends, is THE best rum cake that will ever touch your lips.
and it'll make you feel real good too.  and not just in that way either ;)
this cake is fighting cancer, one bite at a time.
listen up.

one of my most favorite people in the whole entire world, nancy, has been battling pancreatic cancer since 2006.  yes, you read that correctly.  it has been 7 years since nancy was first diagnosed. you can read her entire story here but she's kind of like the poster child for kicking pancreatic cancer's ass.

nancy started NancyCakes as a way to say thank you.  they were a pretty big hit. being the wonderful person that she is, she decided to start selling the cakes, with half of the profits going to pancreatic cancer research.  she sent me a cake last week to "test" and i ate about 3/4ths of it to myself, in one sitting.  it was seriously one of the best cakes i've ever eaten.  and she personally bakes all of the cakes herself!

{nancy pants at work.}
nancy uses high quality jamaican rum so these treats stay good for weeks to come.
perfect for gifts!

go on, take a bite out of cancer.

a bachelorette party was had.

after nyc, i headed to charleston for another best friend's bachelorette party.
this picture sums up the weekend pretty well.

nyc engagement party.

before i headed off on my adventure, i had some celebrating to do.
my bestest friend is getting hitched next year and as the maid of honor, i wanted to do something special for her and her hubby to be.
the two met at university of kentucky so i decided to throw a kentucky themed engagement dinner.
blue and white, bowties, bourbon, and all kentucky cuisine!

{custom made banner from etsy}
{paper straws from etsy and apothecary jars c/o american bridal, a great spot for wedding favors!}
{flowers and candy filled mint juliep cups.  uk color jelly bellies filled apothecary jars}
{i bought vintage bow ties and used them to decorate the bottles at the bar}

{chef matteo and his bourbon glazed sliders. unreal.}
{hush puppies in cupcake holders}
{what's a kentucky party without fried chicken?}
{mandatory engagement-ring-stuck-in-a-hot-brown pic.  i think?}
{the beautiful couple!}
my friend matteo, a private chef in nyc, whipped up the most amazing food for us.
the kentucky kiddos said his hot browns were the best they've ever had!
he was so helpful coming up with menu ideas while staying within my budget.
if you are looking for a caterer in the nyc area, make sure to contact matteo.
thank you to my friends at american bridal for providing the adorable apothecary jars.
all six pounds of jelly bellies fit nicely!
and a big shout out to the incredibly talented taylor who was a breeze to work with in creating the personalized artwork/invitations for the party.  the girl has talent.
everything came together and the party twas a success!
until next time, nyc.

a sunday morning.

{author unknown but i really like this quote}
we decided to have a ladies day on a boat this past sunday morning.
mimosas and brunch made it all perfect
as we cruised around Jackson Lake.
you can still see the haze in these photos from the forest fires
but a little rain that afternoon made the valley clear again.
fingers are crossed that it stays this way.

details. details.

my good friend has a wedding coming up and asked me to help her find
a statement piece necklace for under $100.
her dress is very similar to the dress above but a deep v-neck, perfect for some bling!
she's tall, blonde, and beautiful but
she's also classy, a little preppy, and a lot of fun.
i kept that all in mind and i put my online shopping skills(z) to the test
this is what i came up with:

1. Bauble Bar Midas Leaf Bib

which would you choose?

huckleberry hot springs.

my favorite place to take visitors when they are in town is huckleberry hot springs.
weather permitted, its an easy hike in grand teton national park.
guests were in town from la so we thought we'd do something mountain-y
other than skiing.
we all hauled into a bus with our snow shoes and headed up north.
a mama moose and her baby were spotted.
and we stayed until the amoebas in the hot springs started to freak us out.

a hoot + other stuff.

1. taking a new yorker to the hootenany is a hoot in itself.
2. buckle up, osker!  safety first dude.
3. college friends reunited for some boogie moves.
4. recent move to the woods.  oh, the cabin life tis sweet, yet a bit crowded.
5. scoping out corbet's couloir.  meh, maybe next time.
6. waffles at the top of the tram.  nom. nom. nom. ski.

80's ladies ski ballet.

so last year i started this thing.
probably the most amazing idea i've ever come up with.
after watching the vintage ski movie "hot dog",
i couldn't resist putting together our own little ski ballet!

{that's me in the neon orange. directing 80's tourists}

we're doing this thing again in march.
if you are in the jackson hole area,
can rock a thong leotard,
and have ribbon dancing experience (preferred)
then i better see your neon butts on the slopes!
hope you can make it!
official invite:

Alright Betches.

Time to get real....for the second time.
The second annual 80's Ladies Ski Ballet Practice is March 10th.
I'm speaking from personal experience, but if you can't carry a ribbon dancer like the rest of us...
don't come to the Hill and waste our time.
We're serious.
And bring a lot of movement clothes,
A.K.A. neon spandex, dance belts, lycras, et al.
and seriously, F.Y.I., you guys,
this is not an excuse to get out of your regular ski day activities.
This is an excuse to do some good solid mongoose practice.
So, be prepared, be enthusiastic...and leave your bullshit attitude and baggage at the Base, 'cause we don't need it!
We want to see neon, spandex, thongs, more neon, tutus and huge smiles plastered on your faces.

Let's DO THIS!
Invite open to all ladies.....but ribbon dancing experience preferred.

meet my friend.

check out my friend's new jewelry collection.
how gorgeous are those gems?!
my childhood pal Ali just released her newest project, a.louise.
i'm so, so, so impressed by her insanely beautiful designs.
very intricate yet very simple that any lady could rock.
i'm thinking about leaving her website up on my computer
just as a little hint to the boyfriend for a certain lover's day coming up.
i mean, wouldn't you?
my favorite is the chimera ring shown above.
stop by her website.
i'm seriously in love with every piece!
