{prize money for any local who can guess where this photo was taken.  hint: eskimos}

photos by ashley merritt photography

today feels like fall.  i can smell it in the air.
by no means am i okay with this but i might as well embrace it.
enter, the pleather jacket.
for the record, if i could own a closet full of real leather jackets, i most certainly would but my wallet just won't allow it and i think peta would come after me.
thankfully pleather is an awesome alternative.
there are tons out there, but the one i'm wearing won the online shopping cart award this month.
hurray for H&M finally being online!
its another great transition piece into fall so you'll be seeing it a lot in the early mornings and evenings when the mountain air is especially crisp.
is it obvious that i'm desperately trying to hold onto summer with my pink soles?
i'll go ahead and answer that as i'm clearly looking at them in every photo.

today is the last day to enter the H&M instagram contest.  get gramming for a chance to win a trip to NYC for a personal shopping spree.
come on wyoming gals, get your pics up! #HMShopOnlineWY

thanks to H&M for sponsoring this post.

static peak.

every year i have my eyes set on a few big hikes.
it's impossible to do them all in just one summer.
i mean, there are literally thousands of things to do here and finding the time with work can be difficult.
static peak has been on my list as it doesn't require any ropes.
me + rock climbing = the elvis leg.
(you know, when you're so scared that your legs shake uncontrollably?  that's me, with heights.)
we started super early at 6:45am and crossed paths with a bear and a moose in the first mile.
it's the perfect early morning hike through death canyon as its in the shade most of the way up.
and the views are pretty gorgeous.

locals note
static peak is 11,302 ft. high
the hike is about 19 miles round trip
5300 ft. elevation gain

- park at death canyon trail head in grand teton national park.
- follow signs to static peak divide: you'll pass phelps lake over look and campsites.
- once you get to the old ranger's cabin in death canyon, continue right following signs to static peak divide.
- pass mt. albright and stay on the trail all the way up
- it's a quick scramble to the top
- give yourself 8 hours and start early - they don't call it static peak for no reason!

the jumping rock.

the weather this weekend was pure perfection.
my girlfriends and i decided to chill out at phelps lake to catch some rays and get a little hike in.
we parked at death canyon trailhead and hiked up to the phelps lake lookout.
then made our way down to the jumping rock.
as my friend says, "its not summer until you jump off the rock"
some things just make you feel like a kid again.

summertime part 1.

summer in the mountains is the absolute best.
early cool morning hikes...
teton village is bustling with happy campers...
the wild flowers are in full bloom (lupine to be exact)...
big furry neighbors with the most velvety antlers stopping by to say hello.

hazy days.

{top: etsy // jeans: marc jacobs (similar and on sale!) // heels: cole haan (similar) // bag: vintage // gold cuff: vintage // sunglasses: urban outfitters //coral necklace: lilly pulitzer}
you wanna know what's not fun?
attempting to train for a marathon with all of this crazy forest fire smoke.
forest fires everywhere seem to be planting their co2 emissions right smack dab in this valley.
although i usually find every excuse in the book to not run,
i ran 14 miles this past saturday and i figured if i've made it that far,
might as well keep on truckin'.

you wanna know what is fun?
your boyfriend telling you he found this vintage rainbow plaid top on etsy.
for $12!
and buying it for me.
(just go with it people... don't question why my boyfriend even knows what etsy is)

sup on the snake and a winner.

{kendall and i getting our SUP on}
i took my SUP addiction to a whole new level on saturday
when we floated all the way down the snake river.
rapids and all.
minor cuts and bruises but the scenery wasn't too hard on the eyes.

p.s. click here to see if you were the stella & dot giveaway winner!

locals note: we floated deadman's to moose

get your boogie on.

live music has always been a huge part of my summers.
ever since i was a wee one and my parents were in a band.
um, we can talk about that later....
nothing beats dancing with friends in the warm evenings while sipping a cold brew.
jackson hole live has been hosting free live music this summer at the base of snow king mountain
where i just discovered sister sparrow & the dirty birds.  grace potter meets a 10 piece band.
i've got a new girl crush.

above is my guide to an easy and carefree boogie session this summer.
get the look below!

a few photos from our hot weekend at the beach.
it's been nice to spend some quality family time with just the 5 of us.
doing nothing but lounging by the pool and making fun of each other.
i enjoyed rummaging through my father's hat collection the most.
the guy's got some real gems i tell ya.

heat wave.

{skirt: c/o sugarlips // tank: anthro (old) // earrings: c/o the flock // hat, belt, bracelet: vintage // booties: steve madden // osker: c/o jeff}
there is only a short window in jackson when no jacket is necessary in the evenings.
right now, i'm taking full advantage of leaving the house in only light weight clothes.
this skirt from sugarlips was perfect for meeting up with friends for a bite to eat.
it couldn't have matched my feather earrings more perfectly.
i scooped up my favorite vintage hat in town for only five buckaroos and we are kind of in love this summer.

speaking of heat, everyone stop what you are doing and go do a rain dance for my beloved colorado.
a big chunk of my heart is in CO after going to school there and i don't like these forest fires one bit.
i'm serious......rain dance!

guest + post. (padgett hoke}

summer is right around the corner.
i really can't think of a better place to spend the summer months
than in the gorgeous mountains.
padgett is a legit local (like born and raised)
so she knows all the best secret spots.
check out what her typical summer looks like.
yes, i've got a couch you can crash on.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi there! Padgett Hoke here, good friend to Meagan, and a lover of The Egg. While she is off galavanting around, she has so kindly asked me to do a little post. You can also find me at my own self titled site "Padgett Hoke".

I was born and raised in Jackson Hole, us locals really have a close bond and feel we are a part of a very exclusive club. My friends and I were raised in the outdoors, so when Meagan asked what my favorite part of summer in Jackson Hole is, it was a toughie to answer! But, every activity invariably circles back to water. I love being in & around the water, so here are my favorite pastimes that we enjoy regularly on a hot summer day!

 Kayaking to a camping spot, wine is encouraged.
 Floating the Snake on any 'floating device' available.
Spending the day on a boat at the lake.
A swim in the lake after a long hike.
Stand up paddle boarding

Canoeing
My brother, Bland's, genius hammock boat.
So there it is Egg readers - a little glimpse into a few activities that happen in Jackson Hole during the summer. It is my most favorite time and I cherish every single day of it!

Stop on over and see me sometime, would love to tantalize you with more Jackson Hole love!
