a rather late post on bozeman.

well we didn't end up camping.
but that's okay because my girlfriend has the cutest most coziest log cabin in big sky.
so i was content spending my time with friends, food, and two snuggly alaskan malamutes.
at the end of the visit, we drove to bozeman for some lunch and shopping before heading home.
visiting other mountain towns is always a treat.  each one is so unique.
we opted for the long road home and went north to the main entrance of yellowstone.
the drive down was nothing short of gorgeous and an awesome reminder of how lucky i am to life out west.
on the tail end of the drive, a BEAR darted in front of my car.
that thing was a-haulin'!
if anyone thinks they can run from a black bear.....good freaking luck.

p.s. a recent interview i did for shopathome.com

the wolf people.

{Lamar Valley, Yellowstone}

{setting up shop takes serious concentration}
at 6 am on saturday we left cooke city, montana and headed into lamar valley.
we were told to look out for a guy in a yellow xterra...he's the wolf man.
we found the yellow xterra.
plus other cars with license plates like "WOLFLVR" and "LONEWLF".
normal.
after a short hike we found 30 people all peering into their three thousand dollar scopes.
they'd been there since 4am so we were totally late.

after finally setting up our borrowed scope, (see above....such wolf amateurs.)
we spotted the pack.
incredible.
but i'd be lying if i said i thought they were more incredible then the pack of people watching them.

i had no idea these people existed.
one woman left her teaching job in san diego to move up here to watch wolves.
all. day. every. day.
they all knew each other and they all knew everything about the wolf pack.
i'm sorry but how the hell can you tell which pup belongs to which wolf at 2 miles away???
i'll give it to the pack peeps that at least they are passionate about something...
nat. geo should totally hire them.  or maybe document them.

earthquake!

Something awesome just happened. I experienced my first earthquake. Clancy was acting super strange before leaving work today and as I was saying bye to my boss I became extremely light headed...or so I thought. He calmly looked at me and said, "we're in an earthquake." Like, duh, they happen all of the time here. I always hear people talking about earthquakes in the middle of the night but I never wake up. I'm always super bummed I miss them. Wait, is that weird? I guess its bound to happen when you live over a supervolcano.

When National Geographic published their Yellowstone SUPERVOLCANO cover story last year, I had a ton of concerned phone calls and emails requesting that I move far, far away. The jig is up people. If that volcano blows, we're all toast! At my last visit to Old Faithful (supervolcano activity hotspot), a ranger told me that there has been evidence of yellowstone found on the east coast from the last time the supervolcano burst. Meaning: if this puppy blows, the whole continent is gone. Also, an important side note: the supervolcano is overdue for an explosion.
